The APIIC-Emaar land controversy will be sorted out within the next twofour weeks, officials of Emaar MGF (EMGF) have claimed. In the city to meet customers of the EMGF-developed Boulder Hills township, senior executives of the company said that they were in talks with the Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (APIIC) bosses and would ensure that the matter was settled latest by next month.
The head of customer relations,EMGF,and the local chief financial officer were among those present at the meeting, held at the Boulder Hills golf club, that was attended by 25-30 customers of the township. The officials reassured the buyers, some of whom had even flown in from the US over the weekend,of timely delivery of apartments and appealed to them to keep faith in the EMGF brand. The officials maintained that their papers (pertaining to all dealings with APIIC) were in place and that there was no way any inquiry into the deal could nail them. They tried to convince us that the entire agreement was transparent and that there was nothing unethical about it, said a customer present at the meeting.
To questions pertaining to the safety of the buyers money, officials said that every penny paid by each customer was secure with them and should the project get stalled because of some unforeseen hurdle, the money would be refunded without any ado. Most of the 300 odd customers of the project have already paid between Rs 3-4 crore each.It is huge money that is at stake for all of us.We,therefore, needed an assurance regarding the same, said another customer adding,We have no choice but to believe what these people are saying. If we want to cancel our booking, each of us will lose 30 per cent of the money right away (as per the agreement). That is a lot of money again.
This apart, the EMGF officials also clarified doubts about the firm having a clear title to the land and even showed customers relevant documents to prove their point. They insisted that all was well with the project and that the media reports about the venture were half-baked and incorrect, said the customer adding,They stressed on how work was in full swing and our houses would be ready by June 2011,as promised in the agreement. The Boulder Hills project, spread over 285 acres, ran into trouble earlier this month when APIIC slapped a legal notice on the developer,EMGF,for unlawfully claiming right over the property
