Charging that his property was acquired from the proceeds of the Satyam scam,the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Friday took possession of 4,000 acres belonging to Satyam founder B Ramalinga Raju and his family members in Loyapalli village near Ibrahimpatnam of Ranga Reddy district.
The ED,which has attached 347 pieces of property till now,had given some time to the Rajus to hand over these to them and when that did not happen,the agency started taking physical possession of the land.The property in Loyapalli is one among the 347 that has been attached but is the single largest asset of the Rajus.
The ED began the process of physical attachment of the property after its adjudicating authority in New Delhi last week confirmed the provisional orders issued by the directorate.Taking physical possession includes installing a board that carries a warning on it saying that this is now government property and trespassers will be prosecuted.
Among the remaining assets which have been attached by the ED but where the physical possession is still to happen are the spacious Jubilee Hills residence of Teja Raju,son of Ramalinga Raju.
Meanwhile,the two applications filed by Rajus sons Teja Raju and Rama Raju Jr in the trial court praying the court to defreeze their frozen HDFC bank accounts came up for hearing on Friday.Additional chief metropolitan magistrate B V L N Chakravarthy of the trial court reserved his orders to September 3 after hearing both the CBI and the counsel for the junior Rajus.Apart from this,the magistrate heard the counsel for D Venkatapathi Raju,one of the accused in the Satyam scam,who argued against slapping of conspiracy case against his client.The magistrate posted the matter to August 30.
Meanwhile,Ramalinga Raju on Friday appeared for the third time in the court since he was granted bail and requested the magistrate to record his presence and sought permission to leave the court.The magistrate permitted him to go. To a query by mediapersons whether he was planning to leave Nims hospital,Raju evaded a direct reply and only said no comments.
