Though lofty plans were drawn up for supplying piped natural gas (PNG) to the city by September 2010,the project may get delayed as the required infrastructure is still not in place. Also,at some places land acquisition is yet to be completed.
While there is little progress in land acquisition for mother station at Bowenpally marketyard, identification of stations for APSRTC depots has not been completed too.The ambitious project is also yet to get the approval of the Petroleum and Explosives Safety Organisation (Peso). The Committee on Environment Pollution (Prevention and Control) Authority, headed by Bhure Lal who held a review meeting with the state government officials on June 30,expressed unhappiness over the progress of works.
Representatives of departments involved in the project like Bhagyanagar Gas Limited (BGL),Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC),APSRTC,AP Pollution Control Board and RTA,were present at the meeting. GHMC commissioner Sameer Sharma has been asked to coordinate with all the departments to get necessary permissions and avoid delay.Piped natural gas project for the city is being taken up by Bhagyanagar Gas Limited (BGL),a joint venture between Hindustan Petroleum Company Limited (HPCL) and Gas Authority of India Limited (Gail).
The BGL is currently operating four stations at RP Road,Nagole,Nampally and Meerpet.Once the project is complete,it plans to have 50 online retail outlets and 23 APSRTC depots for gas supply to the city.As per the action plan prepared by the state government,in phase-I,a mother station at Shameerpet, online stations at Kompally, Bowenpally, Monda Market, daughter booster stations at Hi-Tec City, Mehdipatnam, Gachibowli, Malakpet, Falaknuma and Champapet were planned.Apart from these stations,RTC would have compressed natural gas (CNG) depots at Medchal,Hakimpet and Cantonment during phase-I.
BGL plans to give 1,000 domestic connections by the end of 2010 and 2.66 lakh connections in the next five years.Similarly,it has been decided to give 7.08 lakh CNG connections in the next five years.
The mother station at Shamirpet, online station at Monda Market and daughter booster stations at Saroornagar and Narayanguda have to be ready by September 2010.Officials said the mother station works at Shameerpet were still on and the equipment has not come in yet.
At Bowenpally marketyard, land acquisition process was still going on as revenue authorities have to hand over land to BGL. Online stationstwo at Kompally, one each at Bowenpally and Monda Market and daughter booster stations at Hi-Tec City, Mehdipatnam, Gachibowli, Malakpet,Falaknuma and Champapet have to be completed by March 2011.
Of 32 km length pipeline from Shamirpet to Bowenpally,so far only 22 kms line has been laid.As there were some problems for laying pipeline in the Secunderabad Cantonment area and defence area,re-routing of the pipeline through Chintal (outside cantonment and defence areas ) was suggested.
